1) CTS starts around $37K and the 5-Series around $46K (so about $9K, or about 20% more than the Caddy). I don't know where you are getting your numbers.
2) CTS-V with 550+ HP & MSRP of ~61K compared to M5 with 500HP & MSRP ~86K, (so about $24K, or about 40%, more than the Caddy). So there is more than the GXP in the GM line up that can compete with an M5 on the track, and at a much lower price.
3) GM killed the Pontiac version of the Holden, not the whole model, so it is still available in other parts of the world, just not the US, (at least for the time being). And then there are still a few new ones on dealer lots, and there is always the used car market.
4) I think the BMW 5 series is ugly, poorly styled and overpriced!
