You could put them in the living spaces that get the most usage (e.g. family room & bedroom?).
I put an Air-O-Swiss humidifier in our bedroom (where we have some nice wood furniture & a couple of acoustic guitars) & it keeps the room near 40% humidity.
Liked it so much that I bought another one for my office. The office air humidity was previously around 18% when the heating season began, & at this moment is 35%. Between 40 to 50% is pretty comfortable, both for people & guitars/furniture. Both humidifiers were purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond (look for their 20% discount coupons, my wife seems to always have one?!?).
Both my home & office have warm air furnaces, & previously my fingertips would actually split due to the dry air. These gizmos really help, but they do need to be refilled every 1 to 2 days.
You can also get some economical humidity/temp gauges from Amazon (Western model Caliber III), roughly $15 apiece plus shipping, to compare how dry the air actually is now, versus after running a humidifier.
