they buy used Saabs because they can't afford a new one. Same story here. I don't believe in buying new when it's so easy to get pretty much what you want with <40K miles on it, a warranty, and a clean service history (like our CPO '03 9-5SC.).
I basically refuse to pay much over $20K for a car (preferably less). It's just not worth it to me, and doesn't make sense financially. My '96 9K works fine at 165K and has lots of life left. Why change? Ditto my wife's 9-5 and the kids' '95 9K and '99 9-3. And they are all paid for.
But there are lots of people who don't mind car payments and only buy new. They support the auto industry. Saab's troubles are not the fault of those of us who keep our cars a long time. GM has a big part in Saab's issues, but Saab itself, with long product cycles and exceptionally weak marketing (since the '90s) had a hand in it, too.
If Saab somehow manages to survive I'll be thrilled, and will eagerly buy more used Saabs. Probably will anyway.
