This was actually part of the plan for disposal of GM European assets...it was all supposed to be put together in one neat package (just like you described); but...Saab didn't quite fit in with the Opel/Vauxhall operation (or vehicles for that matter) and the inclusion of Saab in the mix would have caused the price to become unattainable for any prospective buyer. Moreover, it wouldn't have made any difference anyway because GM decided at the last minute not to sell Opel/Vauxhall. So this point is really moot right now. GM seems to have difficulty putting any sale together for anyone...it reminds me of the woman in bankruptcy court who is told she must sell her elegant mink coat...every time someone comes and offers real money for it, she says "no," and then when finally pressed to sell it, she burns it in her yard! ("If I can't have, nobody can" mentality). This is what GM is starting to look like to me...just my opinion.
