Advanced vs AutoZone

I had a brain cramp the other day when tracking a headlight issue on the 9-5 and had the air intake hose that sits aft of the right headlights undone. I started the car. This naturally triggered a CEL that wouldn't go out. No biggie since I knew what it was.
So I go to Advanced Auto Parts, which is the first parts place I come to. I go in and ask if they can reset it. "No," they said, seemingly annoyed that I was asking. "Our tool won't do that. It's 10 years old and won't even produce codes unless it's hooked up to a computer in the store."
Hmmm. The unit is right there on the counter, a new-looking Actron. I said OK and left. I was born at night but it wasn't last night. So I drive 1/4 mile down the road to the Zone.
I tell the guy there what I need, that the problem is of my own doing. He plugs in his Actron scanner, clears the code and I'm on my way in under five minutes.
I usually go to Advanced and the guys are always nice enough, but this was weird. A couple days earlier I'd asked what alternatives to Saab 3309 tranny fluid their computer showed for the 9-5. They were reluctant to even help and their computer showed no alternaives. Meanwhile the guys at the Zone gave me a printout of fluids that were compatible.
I know this is just 2 stores, but how a place treats you makes a big difference in where you spend your money.
