I am taking mine into the shop on friday. It is a 1998 V70 XC.

The car has about 146k on it, and the major mechanical parts are very reliable, but just about everything else has gone wrong with it. I am taking it in on friday to get the heater core replaced, since it finally has stopped giving out heat. I also believe that something is wrong with the thermostat since the car takes quite a long time to heat up.

I haven't had any problems with the AWD system, but I have had to replace the rear shocks. The front struts are squeaking and in need of replacement, as well as some kind of leak on one of the axles.

Also, some interesting things with mine are that the shift button sticks in, so before you can get the key out you have to pull out the button. The rear hatch latch is also an interesting thing. You have to push on the hatch and then pull the handle to get it open. I do not know if this is normal, but I have to do that to get my hatch open. Another note, DO NOT put the key in the trunk hole to unlock it. This will set the alarm off. I have no idea why Volvo designed it this way.

I have had the car for about a year and a half, and if I knew this was how it was going to be, I do not know if I would buy it again. I paid $4000 for it, so I would pay no more than that. Mine was immaculate when I purchased it. I absolutely loved my 240DL back in the day. It served me well for quite a long time.
