Like others, I am beating my dead horse...
Saab, depending on its relations with GM, could easily & quickly bring to market a new Sonett based on the GM Kappa platform. The Kappa platform is the 2 seat roadster that is the Opel GT and Pontiac Solstice & Saturn Sky (the latter being the Opel with Saturn badging). With Saturn & Pontiac dead, (Pontiac did have a couple version show car), there might be the opportunity to pick up it up, especially as the platform is designed around the Ecotec engine platform, so a "Saab" engine should fit.
Or Saab could go the way GM/Opel did prior to the Kappa, and make a deal with Lotus around the Elise platform (it is one thing to complain about a Saab based on a Chevy truck or a Subaru compact... it would be hard to complain about a Saab based off of a Lotus).
At least in the US, with the Solstice & Sky killed, Honda having discontinued the S2000 last year & Toyota having discontinued the MR2 several years ago, essentially all of the volume producers are out, with the exception of the Miata, that market has opened up and could be ripe for a lower volume niche player, especially with a car being introduced when the world economy is stabalized if not returning, as it should be when a Sonett could be introduced.
