I've heard that in the old days, car batteries needed to be topped up with water. But, you also hear that the solution inside is acidic. Sulfuric acid, right? My question pertains to a two identical deep cycle batteries that I use in parallel to run an inverter I have. I accidentally tipped one of the batteries over and leaked out acid (it fizzed a lot when I threw baking soda on just in case). So, the problem is, when I charge these two batteries while they are hooked up in parallel, the one that lost fluid has a slight bulge to the case and has a little liquid coming out the vent on top. I'm thinking this battery has less capacity, and is becoming over-charged. Would adding water to the battery correct this problem? Or does it need more acid? Not sure how this works. Probably would be best to buy a new battery but hate to drop $70 for just a hobby.
