The key word in your citing is concentrated - when you top off your battery, you add, at least I do, distilled water. No explosion has ever occured on my end. I had a chemistry instructor demonstrate the the acid into water, do not know the concentration of the acid. He placed a small beaker into a larger beaker and proceded to demonstrate acid into water - broke the smaller beaker.
