I always use my torque wrench for final tightening.... I actually snapped a 3/8 to 1/2 Craftsman socket adapter attempting to loosen lug bolts after a tire shop installed my wheels. I went back to the store with my broken tool and the WIS page specifying proper torque levels. The store manager then used his torqe wrench, in 10 ft-lb increments, to loosen the lugs and determine how much torque had been improperly applied.
Two wheels were approximatley correct, that impact wrench must have had a torque bar attachment. The other two wheels, including the one which broke my adapter, were nearly 200 ft-lbs!
Proper torqueing also got rid of the annoying brake noise from that side of the car. Following this I also bought a 17mm deep socket with 1/2-inch drive to avoid using an adapter in the future, my previous deep metric sockets were all 3/8 drive.
