I guess, in my view, Keynesian policy does not necessarily require debt. Lets say you start the Keynesianism in good times: hoard cash, raise taxes to pull back the economy + prep for bad times. Then when bad times come there is already "money in the bank" to stimulate a recovery. On average, there should be zero deficit (and I suppose zero surplus, unless, like Canada you have existing debt you are working to null out). The premise of Keynes as I see it is to manage oscillations around a (moving) average, like a control loop, to flatten out peaks and valleys. imho, that's pretty useful policy.
Human nature perhaps tends towards what has happened in the US. Spending and low taxes in good times, followed by huge bailouts, stimulus, and deficit spending in bad times. That's not Keynesianism, that's stupidity! So I can understand your opinion, but it needn't be that way, and that it's not so bad up here indicates that it's not Keynesianism itself that is at fault.
