from your insurance company. Remember, their "estimate" is really just an "offer," subject to your acceptance of it. You don't have to accept their initial offer!
All insurance companies treat claims as things to be disposed of as quickly and cheaply as possible - regardless of whether you're a safe driver, not at fault, whatever. Do your research and get an estimate from the best shop in your area. If the insurance company balks at your figures, DO NOT just agree to whatever (lesser) amount they offer you!
I would "decline" their settlement offer until I received a fair amount. Insurance companies HATE it when their customers are informed about the claim process, and will EVENTUALLY make some kind of effort to reach a settlement to which all parties are agreed - but NOT right off the bat!
In all cases where members of my family were victims of drunks and other negligent drivers, despite the fact that we were completely blameless, the insurance company tried to lowball us on the claim settlements. We eventually prevailed, but it was not fun.
