you drive a Canyonaro... we rented one (GMC Acadia) and I'm serious, I relied on that backup cam heavily every time I backed up. The rear blind spot was huge! Modern SUVs have small windows way high up... There is no way you could see a small child or your neighbours' cat otherwise. Actually, a friend of ours knew of someone who backed over their own child, killing them... a horrible thing to do!
So, for those kinds of vehicles, it makes sense to have the cam (or a warning device as a minimum). It's so obvious a need that legislation in that case would seem moot... in sports sedans like saabs etc... well, the rear view is all I need because I can see really well... I probably wouldn't use a backup cam if it was there in our cars... though it was essential in the GMC, it worked very strangely, in part due to the bizarre (out of necessity?) camera angle... I didn't like it, but it seemed to be a necessity in that particular vehicle (which I will admit, I didn't like very much for many reasons)...
