Invisible dog fences and radio waves Posted by ChuckD [Email] (#2127) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ChuckD) on Thu, 17 Feb 2011 20:04:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Esteemed Slaabists,
I have an invisible dog fence that's configured as a loop within a loop. That is, we have an enclosed area just outside the back door that has a pool and a wire running around the fence to keep the furry ones out of the plantings, and then we have a much larger perimeter outside that to give them the run of a couple acres. I need to provide access for them from the inner to the outer.
Currently I have the fence wire go up and over a gate in the fence (8' high) which, if the field strength is turned way down, allows them through without incident. Not pretty but it works, until I blunder through with a ladder or something that hooks the overhead wire. But also I'd like to be able to turn the field up for those tempting times when other doggies beckon for play from afar.
A more elegant solution to the access issue would be if there was some way to nullify the wire signal for just that segment which no one I'm aware of has been able to do. Given that the principal of the system is the wire is sending a radio signal and the magic collars the doggies sport are little receivers, I would like to think that feeding the wire through some kind of shielding conduit would give me that dead section. Does such a thing exist? Could it be a simple as a piece of lead pipe?
Works for Kryptonite, I've heard.
