Don't want to get into the merits. Just to say we've had ours for a full year now and it's worked beautifully for us and our property has dog owners on two sides providing lots of motivation for ours to breech. But IMO we've trained them well and I've witnessed many times where you could see they were chomping at the bit to get to those other dogs but the line deterred them.
One of the main keys to making these successful, I think, is to have visual boundary lines for the dogs, more than just the flags which have a very limited lifespan. We have a ~100 yd. boundary we share with a neighbor that's continuous lawn and no visible boundary. We have an agreement to not mow a 1' wide strip of grass on that line so it is visible now. The rest is tree line, meadow line, some fencing, etc.
I've heard lots of arguments for both sides, I can only say what's worked for us and it's been a real godsend.
