I have heard that twisting the two legs of the wire together, crreating a twisted pair rather than a single conductor, will cancel the signal for your purposes.
You wouldn't need lead pipe to cancel the signal by shielding. Running the wire through a short piece of galvanized conduit buried in the earth would likely do it, use rigid conduit for durability rather than EMT. Or maybe a short piece of copper tubing, type K for durability, since copper is a much better conductor.
