1864 house with stone foundation here. Our problem wasn't side-to-side slant. We had a vortex into the center of the house where someone had removed a stairway and all it's supporting beams. I busted through the old 2" thick hand-poured concrete floor and dug some holes to pour post footings. Then I made up some jack caps from 1/4" plate steel and 1.25" threaded rod. I used them atop 6"x6" PT posts. There is about 1" protruding through the top plate that sits in a counterbore in the beam above. I bored a hole down the center of the post about 10" as a cavity for the rod to fit in before I turned it up to jack the house. This way I can leave the whole shebang in place and just turn it a little at a time. They've been in over 20 years now and are holding up fine.
My former house listed 4" across the face. It was a two-storey built in the 1890s and had a poured concrete foundation. Originally it had built-in gutters, but they were removed at some point. The gabel roof now dropped all the rain water down along the foundation and washed away the slope over time and the foundation sunk. I never did jack that house but always considered it. In that case, the house would have to be jacked and supported and the old foundation would have to be removed and replaced. A job for professionals that I just never had the funds for. My kids used to enjoy watching marbles roll from one side of the house to the other. :-)
