You say that a clean cut is not critical, and it sounds like you are doing straight lines, right? You can score those cuts, and the last time I did this the store loaned me a scoring tool for free. When I needed to cut a circle for the tub job, I drilled a hole and used a special diamond blade that fit a hack saw. Not expensive.
The score is fast and pretty clean. Chance of breaking a tile, but rare once you get the hang of it. Works fine on most floor tile too. "Ask This Old House" says to just buy a tile saw with water for ~$100 if you need to make lots of saw cuts, but that does not sound like you. I think the scoring may work fine for you for free.
