My housemate came home with an iPad last week and my "ohmygod that's cool I want it" attitude had me on the Apple website ordering one of my own.
It got here yesterday and I've been playing with it, but I can't help but feel like it's just a gimmicky over-sized iPhone. I was sort of excited to use it at work on jobsites and stuff. We use PDF's almost exclusively for drawings now, so rather than printing out an 11x17 set of drawings to haul around a jobsite being blown in the wind, how cool would it be to whip out my iPad!? I put a 3mb PDF file on it in iBooks, 30 pages of 11x17's. The thing is a DOG. It takes forever to render. I would be embarrassed to pull it out in front of a client and waste their time! I thought the Dual Core A5 processor with all the crazy graphics capabilities that advertise would be more impressive.
The Facebook app sucks. It's buggy and crashes. And if you want to use Facebook in Safari none of the Flash features work.
I think being an Apple product the visual appeal and build quality (it's beautiful) got to me more than the functionality of the thing. I'm going to test drive it for a couple more days but I may take advantage of Apple's 14 day return policy. It really doesn't do anything more than my iPhone so far and it doesn't fit in my pocket...
