I don't think it has ever been about IP.... I think GM's refusals are due to their global lack of manufacturing capacity to meet current demand in two key segments if Saab survives, and existing supply contracts to Saab that GM no longer wants to honor.
1) 4-cylinder engines
2) Compact Cross-over Vehicles, i.e. 9-4X
European courts have ruled against US companies regarding anti-trust issues multiple times in recent years. With GM's claim of IP no longer in jeopardy in the rumors regarding this latest plan, what else is left?
The Chinese Gov't just slapped a 25% import tariff on GM this week for US built vehicles being imported into China. Mercedes and BMW vehicles built in the US and imported into China only received a 3% tariff. Does GM really think this tariff is not related somehow, at least partially, to their rebuffs of a number of Chinese companies and investors who want to purchase Saab?
Just my opinions.
