"I have yet to see anything that convinces me that GM has changed its ways."
You aren't looking very hard. The wholesale management changes noted above apparently escape you and others here. Oh, and the corporate culture has in fact changed.
For one thing, GM got rid of the duplication among five brands of cars, many of which were just re-badged versions of the same vehicle with different grilles. Now there are actual differences among Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet, although most Chevy and GMC trucks still are nearly identical.
For another they now build cars people actually want to buy, rather than cars they force upon a reluctant public. (The same thing is happening at Ford and Chrysler.) Every new vehicle introduced since closing Pontiac and Oldsmobile and Saturn and selling off SAAB has been unique and has gotten good reviews. I would buy a Regal or Malibu if they offered a wagon or hatchback.
Some of the posters here simply are consumed with irrational hatred of GM, thus blind to reality. Few here seem to understand the value of IPRs. I think GM is justified in keeping current proprietary technology away from Chinese companies other than their own partners.
Try to remember that were it not for GM SAAB would have folded long ago.
