So I go to a relatively small town court for a " passing a traffic signal" ticket I got a few months back. Pleaded not guilty of course. I sat and watched about 40 folks approach the bench and not one of them was charged with the actual offense, good for everyone I guess, but the whole atmosphere was electric with getting the money to the court clerk asap. I was just amazed at how fast the judge would shoo them off, reducing the charge to "parking on pavement" like a routine one liner..." pay the clerk 100$,150$,200$ have a nice night" ! What a waste of everyones time ...and money. They must have collected 6 to 7k in a mere hour and a half. Big tax payer funded court building, all the hullabaloo, court officers, arresting officers time etc. all taxpayer funded. Not one charge stuck...talking on cellphones, stop signs, speeding, everything reduced and pay the court clerk. Everyones time, public included, gas to get there...etc.Why not just have a box to check off on the ticket and just pay the damn thing. Now when the officer said his bit for the judge with me standing there he actually went on with this diatribe of his 10yrs of traffic training and what vehicle he was driving, and actually added :unit 147r with red stripe on the side and gx7r99 superdazzle light bar and high performance blah blah...I almost laughed. Who cares how shiny your cruiser is? Who was he trying to impress? When I passed under the yellow light, I could see it still yellow through the Saab moonroof, and then red through my rear view mirror. Officer was waiting at the light to turn onto the way I was travelling, so he actually lied to the judge as he told him his light was already green when I passed by, which as we all know there is at least a 2 second delay from when it turns red to green for the opposing traffic to pass. I almost said something..but small town and naturally mine was reduced like all the others...kept my mouth shut, paid the clerk and my faith in people, government, society, logic and order drops another notch. Get me outta here!!!! Pay the clerk, have a nice day!
