electronics question (amperage, etc.)

Guys,
I bought four webcams, and they did not come with transformers. I went to Radio Shack and looked through their selection. I bought a transformer that outputs 1.5 amps at 12v DC. Each webcam draws 300mA, for a total of 1.2 amps.
My plan is to wire them all into this single transformer, but I'm wondering if this may still be too much load? All of the cameras will be attached to the transformer with between 20 and 50 feet of wire.
Will the transformer run hotter if I run it close to its rated capacity? Should I buy another transformer and just run 600mA through each 1.5 amp transformer, putting less load on them? This will be in a closet, so I am worried about fire risk.
I would order the proper transformers online, but I am currently in the middle of nowhere and need to finish this by tomorrow (when I go back to civilization).
Thanks
Mike
