Flip phone versus Smart phone Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 26 Jan 2012 08:30:35 In Reply to: Stupid Smart Phone Question, STICKMAN, Wed, 25 Jan 2012 11:14:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We were just "upgraded" this week from flip phones to smart phones at work. I am not sold on their advantages.
Calling a frequently used number on a flip phone:
- Extract phone from pocket, open phone, press & hold one button (number programmed into phone)
Calling a frequently used number on the Smart phone:
- Extract phone from belt holster or man purse (these things are HUGE), press and hold Power button, swipe face of phone, enter security code, press screen again to select phone function, scroll screen(s) to locate phone book, scroll names or start spelling name to locate number, press screen to highlight appropriate person, press screen to dial.
I know there is a "Quick Dial" feature on the phone but it is based on photographs of the people you want to call. I talk to people all over the globe with my job and many I never meet face-to-face to get a photograph. Additionally the camera lens is covered by tamper proof tape for security reasons.
Just today I called a return number displayed on the face of my Smart phone. It took me to the main switchboard of a supplier company, I hear "Press 8 for a company directory". I tried to press 8 but there was no key pad displayed on my phone, just a stupid robot and the "End Call" window. OK, I know there is obviously some quick way to get a keypad to display but I haven't learned that trick yet.
Plus, while my flip phone would last over a week on a single battery charge this new Smart phone only lasts 1-1/2 days! Grrrrrrr!
