A couple of months ago at about 2AM I was awakened by a loud beeping noise. It sounded just like the smoke detectors but I finally figured out it was the CO detector on the first floor. But... the detector had a display on it which was reading zero!
So I did some quick Googling and it turns out 1) CO detectors have a limited lifespan (5-7 years) and 2) that model has a timer in it, and the alarm was going off to indicate it was time for replacement.
Now here's the fun part: the upstairs CO detector which was 5+ years older than the downstairs one did *not* have the "replacement alarm" function. But it most likely was not working at all.
Needless to say I replaced both - plus bought another for the basement.
