Note that the analog outs on some newer BluRay players may be component out (RGB) and not the composite video (yellow RCA or S-Video DIN plug) + audio (red/white RCA). Most run-of-the mill SDTV sets didn't support component in. BluRay players will *up*scale SD content to HD (i.e. DVDs) but I'm not sure if they will all downscale BluRay (or streaming content) to SD. Hopefully native SD content is simply passed through....
If you have a recent (i.e. HDMI onboard) A/V receiver, it will probably downscale BluRay to SD composite or over component, if it has those outputs.
Note also that HDbaseT--networked HDMI, in short--is around the bend. Too much to go into here, but worth researching.
As always, AVSforum.com is the place to go for AV info, inquiries, discussions, etc.
