Converted my oil hot water furnace to Natural Gas about a year ago. The gas company ran the line to my house for free. I installed a Rinnai tankless system that does my baseboard heat and hot water.
The savings have been insane compared to previously using heating oil. I think heating oil is now $4+ a gallon. Just a rough guess but I believe we are paying around 65+ percent less a month using natural gas for our heating/hot water. . The switch almost already paid for itself in savings.
The house is 1200 sq/ft from the 50's with newer windows and its just my girlfriend and I.
Natural Gas is at a record low and looks to stay that way for quite some time. I did some research and it looks like we have a massive supply here in North America. We apparently have so much we are a net exporter of it and are pumping it out of the ground like crazy.
My first few bills were so low I had to call the gas company to see if there was some error. If its available in your are you should look into switching. I see the gas crews running lines to houses like crazy here.
