It's really nice to have a car where everything always works and if it doesn't you get it fixed for free. It's nice to get a car in the color you want and with the options you like. It's nice to (mostly) know that it's gonna start every time you turn the key and won't suddenly fail on you. So you pay the monthly nut, pony up more for insurance and registration, and drive happy.
But it's not worth it to me, and probably many here. I always buy used and over the past 9 years we've bought 5 used Saabs for a total of $37,000 and dealt with normal wear and age maintenance as things come up. Much cheaper all around. And they've never really left any of us stranded although we did use AAA twice (on the two 9Ks) and the CPO warranty towing once (bad DI cassette on the 9-5).
With Saab gone, I wonder what I'll get next, at least if parts continue to be a problem. My problem is there isn't a whole lot out there that I really like. There's cars I'd own, but not something I'd like as much as a Saab.
