dmz,
My idea was (and still is) that most of the sellers and buyers do not bother themselves when leaving the feedback. Yep, there are some ways to minimize this negative effect, but they do not always work - it is really hard to dig thru all those feedbacks when they are all the same 'cause of copy-paste: something around 'AAA! thanks a lot, very recommended seller/buyer/ebayer!'.
Moreover, it is quite easy to be sorta not bad seller these days - things are quite simple nowadays. But even with a detailed feedback you can't be secured against a bad seller should things go wrong for whatever reason, e.g.:
- first 50 seller's transactions were good and you came 51st and package left seller's warehouse for nothing. You contact the seller asking him to file in a claim (recipients can't do that, only senders) and he tells you to go duck yourself since he thinks he has completely done his job.
- seller started his business selling something simple, like spoons and his first 50 transactions were ok, he gained quite positive feedback rating. Then he moves further to some more complex things like SD cards and upon his 51st transaction sells you a used Olympus xD card describing it as 'mini SD canon nikon garmin memory card'. After you pick up your package you open it up and start demanding refund since the item received isn't the one specified at auction. Seller tells you to go duck yourself since all he knows about memory cards is that they can be Visa, Amex, SD, small mini-SD, tiny micro-SD and thus this part has nothing but to be a mini-SD card.
I believe, the same goes for buyers as well - after reading Roger Cicala blog (he runs lensrentals) I gonna agree that not only most of sellers know nothing about what they're selling, but also buyers may have no clue on what they're trying to buy.
Zig
P.S.
I always leave as much details in my feedback as it allows me with its 20 character limit. And I highly value those vis'a'vis who do the same.
