NiMH batteries last a long time

Escape Hybrid licenses the hybrid system from Toyota. NiMH batteries have entirely different chemistry from Lithium-Ion batteries. NiMH has practically no time-dependent thermo decay. NiMH battery life is counted in full charge-discharge cycle and equivalents. Since the Toyota design does not involve deep charge or discharge, the battery should last a very very long time and many many miles. Li-Ion batteries in "electric cars" like the Volt, Karma, and are entirely different stories.
BTW, just saw my first Tesla Model S this past weekend. Driving behind it for nearly half a mile before I realized that was not a non-descript Jaguar or Maserati. The car was driving like being driven by an old church lady on early weekend morning; it's only the lack of a rear license plate that made me take a closer look at the badge. Would have tried to pass it across dotted yellow if not for that stretch of town being known for speed trapping police cruisers lying in wait. Now seeing that it has more than 300hp, trying to pass it in my wagon would have been a folly. LOL.
