I had an old console tv that was twenty years old and still working. When they broke you repaired them. Now you get four or five years out of a set, when it breaks you toss it and buy a new one. The days of driving cars 15 and 20 years old is drawing to a close unfortunately. As they get more and more complicated and hard for independent mechanics/owners to work on, it'll ultimately be cheaper to just get a new (or newer) one. This Escape is a prime example. The differential would be $3500, tires and alignment $500-700, and it's worth maybe $4k--and that would be any different if it wasn't as hybrid. You might get lucky for a year or two or something expensive could go tomorrow. Probably best to cut our losses and get what we can out of it while it still runs and has some value.
