It's been heading downhill for awhile Posted by Chadwick [Email] (#569) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Chadwick) on Thu, 8 Nov 2012 19:15:40 In Reply to: craftsman going downhill and offshore, brick8, Thu, 8 Nov 2012 18:39:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'd say 80% of my tool box is Craftsman and has been for the past 8-10 years. The rest would be 10% Matco/Snapon, and 10% being whatever brand of tools other technicians have left for me under the hoods of my customers cars. While I do find myself lusting after Matco and Snap-On stuff from time to time, I never feel like it's really worth it. I know of too many techs that are still paying off tools and boxes after 5-10 years of employment at dealerships... no thanks.
All the new style ratcheting wrenches that work on traditional bolts as well as square heads and E-torx are fabrique in China. The 60gal shop compressor I have is "Craftsman Professional" yet also fabrique in China. I guess they're having to do all the can to compete with harbor freight?
They also discontinued making tamperproof torx socket bits. Broke my T30 and asked them what to do about warrantying it, said there's nothing they can do since it is discontinued.
