I vastly prefer fedex over ups also.
For fedex air, the brokerage is pretty cheap + I think it can be reduced if the importer (your customer) signs up for a fedex account or something like that with a cc on file to charge customs to. Not sure with ground.
wrt integrating brokerage into shipping costs, I know I got some parts from Taliaferro Imports (another great Saab resource) and they did that. I think they shipped air though (set of 4 shocks)... shipping was not cheap but there was nothing due when they arrived...
