I'm always amazed by how often I see cyclists riding in blind spots or right beside a car when there's a good chance it's going to turn right. Maybe they're technically in the right, but with how obviously inattentive drivers are it just seems suicidal(though i think they're usually just oblivious). Most drivers struggle to keep up with the other cars and pedestrians on the road, and I think it's wishful thinking that they can add bikes to their intellectual mix. I think some of the two way bike lanes on one way roads and things like that they've set up these days are just asking from trouble. When I ride I think of myself as invisible to cars and that seems to work well, but still doesn't stop yahoos from pulling out in front of you, etc. Agree that the passing a bike then immediately turning thing is annoying and dangerous - no excuse for that.
Two other things I really hate re: bikes:
-Cyclists that ride on the sidewalk when it's not necessary (there's sometimes even a bike lane!) Man that steams me!
-Cyclists at night without lights. I see this all the time here, and it terrifies me. Imagine hitting one of these guys in your car! i just don't understand why people risk there lives over not buying a $10 set of lights. I assume they wouldn't drive a much larger, more visible car at night without lights, so how in the world do they think it's okay on a bike, especially when they see other people riding around with lights? I guess it just doesn't occur to them, but I'll never understand it and it makes me really uncomfortable when I see it driving.
