I seen it first-hand, as the passenger: there are many people who will creep up on a car/truck/whatever and lock onto it unconsciously and sit either in the blind spot or slightly behind.

When I lived on Long Island I once got a lift to Laguardia Airport with hired driver sent by my company. This otherwise sane, clear-headed guy who also tended bar and was a Little League coach proceeded to find the first car he could on the Northern State Parkway and lock his speed to it with his front bumper about even with the other car's rear door. And there we stayed for miles as the road twisted and turned.

I've seen this happen on the NYS Thruway between NYC and Albany when I used to drive it. But I've seen so much sociopathic behavior on that road I now avoid it at all costs.
