OT: Sources and cost for classic car transport Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 05:55:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I found a car (sorry, not a Saab) in central NY state yesterday. This particular car model is one that I have been admiring for years but all examples I have looked at locally have Extreme Caution signs attached.
I won't be able to look at this one for another month as the owners are leaving for vacation, and the winter weather in both central NY and Michigan generally sucks.
I requested and received a quote from Reliable Carriers for transporting the car back to MI for use in future price negotiations. I have seen quotes of $500 to $600 for cross-country transport so I was shocked to see $1,125 for ~400 miles of enclosed transport, but even more so by the 4 to 6 week time window associated with the transport (obviously trying to fill a big transport truck).
What carriers have others used with good results? Is this the going rate now?
The asking price for this car is $22K, and it has placed twice in European Marque Car Shows so I want to baby it somewhat, but not approach the value of the car in shipping costs either.
Thanks,
