Consider going to a real MD doctor who is an eye specialist. That would be an ophthalmologist, much as a cardiologist is a hear specialist. Optometrists call themselves "eye doctor" in the U.S. but they do not go to medical school and, in some countries, would go to prison if they called themselves "doctor".

However, you have to pick an ophthalmologist who is interested in doing an eye exam for glasses, not just one that likes retinal detachments or glaucoma. Some ophthalmologists may think an eye exam for glasses is beneath them. An ophthalmologist is good for noticing eye problems that a non-MD might not even realize.

Once you have a glasses prescription, if it is bifocals, then online places really lack the fit and bending capability (you do it). If it is not bifocals you could try the online places. I just go to a bricks and mortar store to buy glasses.

With Saabs, it may be the same way. The local non-Saab mechanic may have good intentions, like the optometrist, but the Saab mechanic is really better to go to. Some Saab mechanics may think oil changes are beneath them but if you find one that doesn't, it's really the best person to go to. Likewise, going to a real MD, which is an ophthalmologist is the way to go.
