If the "neutral opened at the pole", I am assuming that this is the electric utility pole in a nearby alley. This sounds like the electric company's problem/fault, not yours, and needs to be documented for a possible claim when you have this sorted out.
They will probably try to absolve themselves of any blame. I had issues with our local electric utility for years, i.e. flickering lights in my house to the point where computers would occasionally shut down. They sent a "technician" out to hook up load measurement equipment at the service entrance to the house and told me that I had an internal wiring problem that I subsequently could not find - I had the house rewired when I moved in - and their power delivery was fine. One day a power line in the alley down the block caught on fire (probably high internal resistance?) and dropped to the ground, burning a large hole through concrete and catching my neighbor's garage on fire. Since that line was replaced I no longer have any issues with my power.
