Which year was that Firebird?? I owned a '79 TransAm with the T/A 6.6 engine (not the Oldmobile station wagon 403) which was actually built as a '78 high performance engine. Close ratio 4-speed manual with narrow gate Hurst shifter and the WS6 suspension package which included wider wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes, and polyurethane suspension bushings rather than rubber. I ordered it that way from the factory, with no radio and seatbelts that didn't match the interior fabric to save money (who cares if the seatbelts are black rather than camel when the car is black and the interior is both camel and black?).
The car was freakishly quick away from starts and could spin the tires in all four gears (I did it once just to be sure!). The car came with a 150 MPH speedometer but I don't remember ever reading that it was actually capable of those speeds.
I drove it for a little over a year, got married, moved, and discovered I could not afford the insurance in my new town. I sold it and my grown sons are still mad about it - even though neither of them were born yet when I sold it.
