Most likely it's a flaw in the design of the DVR. When it's doing something other than playing, it drops the audio channel so the amp "sleeps." When you start playing again there is a quick format negotiation and a pop at the amp flips back on mid-sound. I get the same thing on both my Onkyo and Yamaha receivers that are plugged into HTPCs... when the computer sleeps, audio drops (you can see the display on the receiver change), and as soon it wakes back up POP. It is annoying - especially that the DVR wouldn't be smart enough to not drop audio during normal operations. I can see why it would, though... It's probably not fixable.
