I agree on the insulation. most houses are not well insulated and have overspecified heating and cooling systems. an 80 gallon tank is huge, especially where most shower heads etc are low flow - an on demand heater would be the way to save $$ on the hot water.
Wood is typically a cost effective way to heat a house, but take care of it so you don't burn your place down. New setups might be better in that regard than old...
