IF it's a large enough sample, it is a valid comparison point.
NO, it can't be used to determine the odds of an engine (that receives a modicum of proper care) lasting 200k+ miles, but it can be used to see what engines are likely to require service.
I'm not familiar with the British insurance agency Warranty Direct, but if it's anything like aftermarket warranty plans here, there's a deductible, so it's not sampling minor items.
For example, it's a crime that the 9-5 coolant bypass valve can't (on average) last more than 5 years, but that replacement typically wouldn't be done per aftermarket warranties here. DIC replacement is stupid easy to do, but it is a fairly expensive part, and a valid repair/reliability item.
