To be fair, pretty much all cars nowadays are like that - lots more electronics, lots of parts that need to be married to the car with special tools. It's a way to keep $$ in the system I guess, force people to go to dealerships for stuff... I don't like some of that either but there are some positives, like it is nice to be able to do more diagnostics electronically than having to hypothesize and try stuff...
