Picked up another "Saab" this weekend. Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Mon, 30 Sep 2013 07:42:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One of those Gary Fisher Saab bikes popped up on eBay within a 2 hour driving radius of home, large frame, decent condition, so I had to click the Buy it Now button. I don't know the first thing about bikes. I'm sure looking at is as just a bike I overpaid tremendously, but being a collectible Saab item I'm a bit more comfortable. I live in an avid biking community. We have mountain trails and miles and miles of paved train track beds very close to home. I wanted something to ride now and again casually and thought this would be fun.
As far as I can tell everything on the bike is original. The guy I bought it from found it at a tag sale where it had been sitting in a shed for years. He replaced the chain, gave it a tune-up, it needs tires and brakes (they're dry-rotted). Some of the bolt heads are rusty but those are easy to replace. The paint shines like new and only has a few very small chips.
Does anyone have any solid information on these bikes? I thought I read it's a GF "Supercaliber" but those retailed for $2499 back in the day and I thought I read in the Saab 9-5 Gary Fisher literature that this bike retailed for $900. Were they only sold with the 9-5 Gary Fisher editions? It LOOKS similar to a 2000 Gary Fisher Supercaliber if you google that. If anyone knows anything I'm willing to listen! Thanks.
