I actually think it is crazy that people would want body styles to change regularly. As you say, it goes well with our "throwaway lifestyle" here! It's a real pain in the neck eg if you get a parking lot door gouge and need to get a brand new possibly out of production skin, mount, repaint, etc rather than pull one from a junkyard. Or same thing for a headlight. Keeps parts costs high and dealerships busy I guess! I need a door for a 1989 c900, and just about anything over more than a decade will fit - so I mainly need to find a junker in the right colour and I'm set!
Personally, I think there are so few 08+ 9-3's on the road that they will still look fresh, but with a different engine and probably many other bits, one has to wonder how much a new NEVS 9-3ss will resemble a Spyker 9-3ss or a GM 9-3ss... there may be enough differences that it might as well be a new car from a junk yard perspective!
Those of us who like used Saabs are going to find the options few and far between in a number of years: either buy something old and high miles, or buy new (if NEVS succeeds), or move on...
Imho, unless there are regulatory hoops that need to be jumped through to allow registration of new Saabs in the USA (probably are), I think NEVS should allow sales here but only on a special order basis - let the enthusiasts who really want them order them, but don't try pushing them through the dealers. Maybe that doesn't work well logistically (eg shipping). I agree that it is unrealistic to stock up all the dealers with new cars at this point.
