Get the VIN if you can and do a google search. Sometimes the VIN will show up as dealer stock at one or multiple mom and pop type used car lots. If it's been around for a while without selling, likely there is something wrong with it. Then again, maybe nothing will show up.

My experience with auctions is pretty much the same as JVA's. You can start the car in place and go inches forward or backward but that's about it. Some auctions have an arena that they drive the cars into for bidding away from the display field. If that's the case, if the car makes it to the auction area, that's a least a good sign that it will move under its own power.
