I have 150 feet of driveway, plus an 80 foot pathway around the house and a 75 foot front walk to the street. Then there's excavating the mailbox by the road. I had a 8 hp 26" MTD that I ran for 13 years. Always did the job but it really wasn't quite up to the task in some storms. It gradually deteriorated, but it did last OK and was worth the $600-something I paid for it at Wally World.
Bought a used Ariens 8.5 hp 26" machine (probably 3-4 years old) 3 winters back. The Ariens is a beast. Heavier and much more robust than the MTD, it throws snow further and does a better job. New blowers are pricey, but I think this used one was about $450 or so, compared to a new one at 2X that for the equivalent machine. Controls are better and it has features like grease nipples so the auger shafts can be greased. And the shop where I bought it can service it when necessary, which is a nice plus, even though I usually DIY.
I recommend a used machine from a store that sells that make. That makes it easier to get parts and you can have it repaired if needed. Buying privately is good, but still be sure some place convenient can service it. Some places will only service the makes they sell. Blowers don't need much maintenance, but when something dies you want to have a place to take it.
