studs etc... is hakka R2 close? studs are illegal here too. It's ridiculous because the legislation is based on data from the 1970's and stud technology has changed quite a bit to be easier on the roads.
We are on Hakka R tires right now, so a friction tire - can't stud them. I'm not overly impressed with them but I'm not sure how much that is the 9-5 vs c900 (C900 has Hakka4 without studs and is much better in all respects, even with less tread depth remaining and less siping - maybe it is the narrow width - 185 vs 205 - maybe it is the cars overall)...
I'm wondering how people are finding the Hakka R2? They have hard stuff in the tread (as I read it, basically like sand) to improve the grip on ice. A tire like that if it worked well could be quite optimal in principle, as it would not have the same amount of road noise as real studs. The question is mainly if the traction is there, or if it is basically just a gimmick. Nokian claims vastly improved stopping distances in their testing. I forget by how much. Anyone here have experience with them on Saabs?
