Hello, I have a Sony 36" CRT television with a true flat screen (model KV-36XBR400). This enormous TV set represents the last great gasp of CRT technology before the world went plasma and LCD. It was built in 2000 but still works perfectly.
The TV set has two HD component video/audio inputs (Y/Pb/Pr). My blu-ray player is plugged into one of these inputs, and the picture quality is just excellent.
My TV picture is good, but not as good as that. In the hopes of improving it, I'd like to plug my cable box into the TV set's other HD input, but the the cable box lacks the component output to do that. It has the older style composite video/audio outputs (yellow for video, red and white for audio). At the moment, I use these to send the signal from the cable box to the TV.
[Cable from the wall to the cable box through a coax cable with the F-connector. Video and audio goes from the box to the TV with the yellow, red, and white composite cables.]
Our cable service is as basic as it gets -- very few channels. But, if I got a cable box with the component Y/Pb/Pr outputs and connected it to the TV, wouldn't my picture improve? I wonder if Comcast would do that without requiring me to upgrade my cable service.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
