This is what you need, a low profile high lift jack.
I got one from Northern Tool 5 years ago, it was the best buy back then.
See the link and look at the picture comparing it to a normal jack.
You single point lift the car in the front or the rear.
It's safer than jacking back or forth on the sides of the car.
Although it might seem a little scary the first time you do it.

When I'm working on the front of the car, I'll back it up on some ramps and jack the front way up on 6 ton stands.
Vice/versa if I'm working on the back of the car.
I use a 6x6 block of wood on the jack pad to get the car even higher.
I've got one of our Saabs up like that now. I can post a picture tomorrow.

This is the best buy for high jack stands;
Torin T46002A 6 Ton Double Locking Jack Stands, at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00026Z3DQ/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00026Z3DQ&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork).

This is the best buy for normal 3 ton jack stands:
Torin T43002A 3 Ton Double Locking Jack Stands, at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CO86BY/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000CO86BY&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork).
